There Ain't No Way to Hide Your Smilin' Eyes

Helen’s jaw was fixed, and her eyes were smilin'. And you may ask yourself, how did she get here?

Well, we had just enjoyed Nachos Supreme (includes chicken, beef, and beans) at our favorite Mexican restaurant (chain).  Since I had enjoyed the Nectar of Gods (beer) Helen volunteered to drive the lean, green, driving machine (LGDM).  It was to be her 2nd time - I grinned and nodded my assent.

Helen is not a fan of the LGDM (too small) but values her life so she volunteered.  She dropped into the LGDM and immediately raised the power retractable hardtop (PRHT).  I grinned and gave myself a playful forehead slap - she smiled. I know she does not like the PRHT down (convertibles are hard on the hair).

Underway, she nodded toward the clutch, “I like this pedal..., it is very smooth.”  I grinned and nodded my assent.

Helen's household of cars include a 2013 Land Cruiser, 2019 Mustang ecoboost manual (her “Chick Car”), and a 2023 VW ID.4 (all electric).  "All straight road vehicles," I told myself. I grinned.

As the last of the autumn leaves fell in a gentle flurry, Helen’s driving became more spirited.  Heading into the apex of a 90-degree corner she downshifted two gears and hit the gas.  The LGDM rocketed (well, at 30 mph) out of the corner.

I glanced to Helen, her smilin' eyes spotted mine and her fixed jaw turned into a sheepish grin.

“I like the way it corners.”

I grinned and nodded my assent.

Miata is always the answer (MIATA).

How about you? What do you drive? Share a story?
